While you are reading this material, there are thousands of animals being tortured to death in laboratories around the world in the name of scientific research. Many of these animals are primates that end their lives in pain with electrodes attached to their brains so ‘scientists’ can analyze and document their suffering.
When discussing the reasons people go vegan, no discussion is complete without referring to vivisection. While the practice of vivisection has got to be one of the most revolting activities humans have ever become involved in, most people try to pretend the practice does not exist, or brush it off with some cliché they have heard in academia which they believe excuses their tolerance of the animal abuse.
Vivisection (which is often called animal experimentation) involves people inflicting cruel, invasive, and painful harm to living animals so they can watch the animal reaction which usually ends in death. This is largely done in the name of science, education, and product development. Common techniques include, killing animals to dissect their bodies, force-feeding animals toxic substances to see how they die, depriving animals of their basic needs to see how long they can survive, causing deliberate illness or injury to animals, terrifying animals, and purposely breeding animals into susceptibility to disease.
When you buy products that are ‘tested on animals’, you are commercially supporting this practice.
It is also worth mentioning here that in order to transport monkeys from the wild to the laboratories where they are scientifically abused requires the active support of the airline industry. Many commercial airlines have banned the transportation of primates to laboratories for ‘research’ but the ‘service’ at the time of writing was still available (according to: https://www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/airlines ) from ABX Air, Aeroflot, AirBridgeCargo, Air France, and Royal Jordanian Airlines.
It is also worth mentioning that you probably have laboratories practicing vivisection close to where you live, and your local college may actively participate in the practice.
Many people go vegan when the reality of vivisection dawns on them and the considerable number of products in local supermarkets that rely on vivisection practices for their research and control.
